As part of the 2019 Macleay Seniors Festival, an older road users’ workshop is being held at Kempsey and South West Rocks to provide advice for people aged 65 or over to stay independent and safe.
Topics include: safer driving habits; pedestrian safety; mobility scooters; driver licensing at 75 and 85 years; and the impact of health changes on road users’ abilities.
The workshop will cover how changes to seniors’ health, such as vision impairment and dementia, can affect an individual’s abilities as a road user.
It also explains the NSW older driver licensing system and provides information for those who want to transition from full-time driving to other transport options.
The free workshops will be held at 10:30am at Kempsey Macleay RSL on Tuesday, 19 February and South West Rocks Country Club on Wednesday, 20 February.
Registrations are essential on 6764 6623 or via email: roadsafety@joblinkplus.com.au
In conjunction with Bus Safety Week from 18-24 February, Council is highlighting the importance of bus-related safety issues for all road users.
The `Be Bus Aware’ campaign aims to improve awareness about how to stay safe on and around buses. From school bus users and pedestrians, to motorists, bicycle riders and passengers, everyone has a role to play in bus safety.
Pedestrians are the most vulnerable road user around buses. To stay safe, it’s recommended pedestrians plan ahead and don’t rush for the bus, avoid being distracted by mobile devices, and stand back from the kerb when waiting for a bus.
Remember, bus drivers can’t stop quickly so motorists are encouraged to give way to buses pulling out from bus stops, and slow down to 40km/h when bus lights flash. For more bus safety information, visit: www.BeBusAware.com.au
