The single mother of two, who wishes to remain anonymous, was startled at 4.54am when her dog was going off its brain and barking in the direction of the kitchen.
The woman rose from her bed and looked into the kitchen to notice the figure of a person holding a lit cigarette lighter.
I saw a young man, in his late teens or early 20s, and he was looking around the house but the dog disturbed him and when I turned on the lights he flew out the backdoor, the woman told the Argus.
I have security cameras and on the footage you can see someone enter the home at 4.54am and then leave two minutes later. It all happened so quick.
The intruder stole the womans handbag but fortunately no one was injured during the ordeal.
The brave woman had a clear message for the intruder.
Get a job, dont go around stealing from single mothers, who have a mortgage and work hard for what they have, she said.
The crime in the area needs to stop, the crime in this town is ridiculous.
The intruder gained access into the property by burning a hole in the fly screen door which made it possible to unlock from outside.
The woman alerted the police and expressed her gratitude to the officers for their support.
They were here within minutes and have been amazing, she said.
I think the police are doing a fantastic job and people need to focus on what they have done rather than on things that are out of their control.
The police investigation is ongoing.
