Using resources from the State Library of NSW, the workshop will provide information on the various organisations that are the custodians of Aboriginal family history records.
Council’s Library Coordinator, Angie Meers said there were access conditions associated with the records due to the cultural sensitivity of the material.
“The State Library holds the Tindale genealogies and only direct descendants or those with written approval from communities or families can view the genealogies,” Ms Meers said.
The Connecting Culture: Tracing Ancestors workshop is run by the State Library’s Indigenous Services team. It outlines resources and strategies that may assist you in your research, including:
- techniques to search the Library’s collections
- discussion of significant collections held at the Library relating to the local area
- tips for using other important resources for Aboriginal family history research
The workshop includes a question and answer session with the Indigenous Services team and practical guidance for using the Library’s resources.
Join us for this workshop on Thursday March 7 between 1pm and 5pm at Kempsey Shire Library.
