The Macleay Valley Mustangs were holding a 12-0 lead over the defending premiers the Port Macquarie Sharks in their pre-season fixture on Saturday before a severe thunderstorm forced the match to be abandoned, minutes into the second half.

Coach Russell Lardner was surprised by how quickly his team was able to gel and labelled the side's first half as "near-perfect".
"We were outstanding, our defence was unbreakable and our attack was just as good," Lardner told the Argus.
"Considering it was the first time we have played together, I couldn't believe how well we gelled."
The Mustangs opened the scoring early in the contest when centre Nathan Welsh finished off a backline play.
The away side doubled their advantage after a perfectly placed kick from five-eighth Stephan Blair resulted in winger Phillip Thaiday scoring a try.
Lardner was impressed with the entire team and said he could say something positive about every player.
"The whole team was great, you could tell we have been working hard at training," Lardner said.
"The feeling around the team is quite special, it's still early but I think we can build to something this year."
