Hosting member groups from Coffs Harbour, Port Macquarie, Hastings and Wauchope, there will be around sixty singers attending. There are 105 groups nationally, with groups in every state and territory.
Those in the community who would love to sing in a welcoming environment are invited to attend, join the singing, and perhaps see if they would like to join the organisation. The cost of the event is $10 to cover expenses and afternoon tea is included.
Sing Australia is a national network of singing groups promoting singing as an inclusive, everyday act available to everyone. They sing familiar and new songs. The members form lasting friendships within a supportive community. The singing groups share their infectious love of singing with the broader community, performing in significant events and special places throughout the year. Groups and members also connect with each other through national gatherings and tours. Come and find out more about Sing Australia and see if it's for you!
The national celebration of Sing Australia will have all Sing Australia groups gather in 32 Regional Gatherings across Australia on this day. It will showcase the very significant achievements of Sing Australia as well as highlighting the benefits of making singing an inclusive and non-judgemental activity.
In 2008 Sing Australia was given substantial funding by the Australian Government to assist Sing Australia in establishing dozens of singing groups in drought-affected Australia. This support from the Australian Government remained in place until 2017. From our surveys the singing groups proved to be of huge benefit, in terms of well-being and friendship, in a great many communities.
"It is the social contact which touches most people at Sing Australia. From members with mobility and vision challenges being embraced and included, support for folk undergoing surgery of all kinds, through to emotionally caring for folk in times of need, like bereavement and life changes, everyone's life is celebrated as unique and valuable. This is a profound affirmation the likes of which I've not seen before, as it comes from simply being oneself, not the result of any competitive performance," Dr Andrew Horwood MB BS (Hons) FRACGP, FACNEM, Grad Dip Integrative Medicine
"Our special celebration on 13 April across the country will continue to grow in the years to come and involve more singing genres until we have all of Australia singing. The now well documented health and social benefits of singing are too great for us to ignore. We can all access these benefits. In an increasingly lonely society we must look to the resources we have within all of us to connect positively with each other.' Colin Slater OAM CF, Founder and National Director, Sing Australia
"The joy of singing with others is an incomparable human experience that can make us feel more connected, appreciated, compassionate, expressive and uplifted. Sing Australia! is a call for Australians in every state and territory to join us in celebrating the power of singing together," Gian Slater, Musical Director Sing Australia.
