The plan is to involve teams from groups three and two with the competition run by a North Coast women's rugby league committee comprised of delegates from both groups.

Group three is now calling for nominations for the committee.

The competition was discussed at an East Coast regional meeting last weekend. Groups two and three makes up the region.

Country Rugby League women's participation officer Kylie Hilder from Forster expects a six week nines competition will be played after the group three grand final in August.

No date yet has been determined for the start of this competition.

This will be under the CRL banner.

"We would then look at a regional competition - possibly 11-a-side, running from February to March,'' Mrs Hilder explained.

She said there weren't enough women interested in rugby league to support a competition solely in group three or group two. 

However, she said the regional model has worked successfully in the Western Division area this year.

"Obviously travel will be a factor,'' Mrs Hilder said.

"So we would have to make sure the draw is done to ensure it is fair for everyone.''

Mrs Hildler believes it is important to move now so as to act on the success of the North Coast women's representative team.

The side is through to the Country Rugby League final to be played this weekend in Mudgee.

However, Mrs Hilder said moves to form a women's rugby league competition won't be the death knell for the popular league tag in group three.

Mrs Hilder helped establish league tag here in 2009.

Group three was among the first in the CRL to start league tag.

She explained that not all league tag players were interested in playing rugby league.

"Of 100 league tag players I'd say only around 40 would want to play rugby league,'' she said.

"This certainly isn't designed to kill league tag. We want to offer both.''

Mrs Hilder played in the inaugural NRL women's competition last year.
