The U3A is an organisation for retired locals to come together and enjoy activities as a group.
John Cruickshanks has been a member of the Kempsey Macleay U3A for a number of years and said more local men should sign up and enjoy the range of activities available.
"The fact is that the elderly are a fantastic resource. We have a lifetime of experience and abilities in all sorts of fields. We have reached a stage of life which is 'our time' and we should enjoy it as much as we can," he said.
"Today, it seems to be a generally accepted fact that we should do as much as we can for as long as we can in both physical and mental activities to maintain our health and well-being at the best possible level.
"Social interaction is an art which women seem to have mastered better than men in our age group. Men tend to muck about in their sheds, enjoy their own company and solitary pursuits more than women. Whilst they do enjoy a yarn with friends, they tend not to make as much effort as women do."
Mr Cruickshanks said no matter what your interest is, U3A is an enjoyable group to be apart of.
"It's a perfect place to participate in a great range of activities in a largely informal manner, even for men. If you have a particular interest which you think others may be interested in, then you are able to start a new group, attract like-minded participants and gain more enjoyment and participation," he said.
The group oraganises activities such as canoeing, table tennis, bridge, gardening, card making, mahjong and crosswords.
U3A's next enrolment days will be held on Friday April 26 at Boronia Gardens in South West Rocks from 10.30am to 12pm and Monday April 29 at Kempsey Macleay RSL Club from 10.30am to 12pm.
