Local Courtney Pietsch has entered, and the first time driver is excited to finally take the plunge and particpate in a derby.
"Previous years have been very much male-dominated, so I'm excited, and a little nervous, I think after the shock of that first hit I'll be fine though," she said.
"I've wanted to do it for the last couple of years, but I've never had the time to get a car ready, it takes a lot of work to modify a vehicle for the derby."
Rules for the high octane adrenaline fueled event are simple; the last vehicle still moving at the end is the winner.
"The last car still working is the winner; it keeps going until only one car can move, drivers wave their flag to signal when they have surrendered," Pietsch said.
At the moment, the drivers who get first, second and third will receive trophies and cash prizes, and while 21-year-old Courtney is eager to win, she has other motivations for entering the event.
"I'd love to win; everyone loves to win, mostly I'm just doing this for the fun of it," she said.
"Cars are my passion; and my partner enters all the competitions and follows the local circuit, people are always giving us old broken down ones for us to fix up and modify. "
Despite the Kempsey Show being a week away, Pietsch is already looking to the future and started making plans to enter another demolition derby.
"If the car survives, I will be heading to the Macksville show for sure; otherwise it will just depend on how long it takes to get another car ready," she said.
Look out for Courtney at the demolition derby, her car is number 17 and sponsored by West Kempsey Hotel, she is also in the Miss Showgirl Competition.
"I wish everyone luck; hopefully, it's a good event, and we can have more of these in the future," Pietsch said.
