"We have multiple generations attending; my son and grandson are both in events; last year they even won the family camp draft," Peter Roston said.
"One of my daughters is also on the committee and entered in the showgirl competition."
Peter Roston has been on the Kempsey committee for the better part of 15 years, and he has been attending to show with his dairy cattle for over 40.
"I started showing dairy cattle about 40 years ago, I've entered four breeds over the years," he said.
"I have a few cattle entered this year, but they are getting a bit on in years now, some are 10 and 11, they've had a good run, but I don't know how much longer they'll keep going," he said.
This year there will be a mix of new and old events to entertain and amaze crowds including a fat pig competition, cattle dog trials and returning for another year, the family campdraft.
"This is the second year of the family camp draft, the beauty of it is all the action will take place right in front of the grandstand, this event is more for the crowd than the competitors," Peter said.
"Normally a campdraft can last a few days; this event is only very brief, it gives everyone an idea of what a campdraft looks like but without having to watch for several days."
Recently it was announced that the future of the Kempsey Show had been secured for a further three years after Coastline Credit Union signed on as a major sponsor, Peter Rostons future with the show isn't as clear cut though.
"I expect I'll be involved in some capacity for a while yet; it will just depend on how I feel, its more about keeping the show going for future generations," he said.
"The first show was all the way back in 1881, they've been only two years without a Kempsey Show, during the war years, to my knowledge it hasn't missed a year since. ."
The 2019 Kempsey Show will be officially opened at the Kempsey Showground by the Federal Minister for Agriculture David Littleproud on April 30 and will run until May 1. For a list of events or to buy a pass, visit the Kempsey Show website at www.kempseyshow.com.au.
