Carson finished with the third fastest time out of 72 competitors in the heats of the Under-17 Victorian Little Athletics 100m event.
On the back of his time, Carson advanced through to the semi-finals. However, the 14-year-old competed in freezing cold and windy weather and Carson admits he doesn't compete well in those conditions.
Carson still managed to finish fifth in his semi-final but missed out on qualification for the final.
Meanwhile Jarno gained valuable experience from the competition but was unable to advance from the heats.
"They both loved the experience and are looking forward to next year," Carson's mother Tiana Adamson said.
"Carson is very pleased with how well he ran at his first Stawell Gift. He wasn't expecting to make semi-finals at all.
"Both boys ran really well and will run again in the same divisions next year."
The pair plan to compete at more professional races to improve their handicap.
The two competitors are both trained by Richi Donovan out of Scotts Head.
