Their love story begins before they were born, as their parents first lived within a stone's throw of one another in Sydney.
The two families hadn't met yet but Les and Valerie's parents shared an eerily similar life journey.
They both lived in Leichhardt, before making a move to Goulburn for a number of years and then returning to Sydney to eventually live a block a part in Cronulla.
It was this twist of fate that would eventually lead to a chance encounter between the two, who were destined to be together.
Les had a strong passion for horses and often rode his horse around town.
Shortly after turning 10, Les was riding his horse when a young girl caught his eye.
"To this day, I can still picture her in my mind, standing there in her driveway with her long blond curly hair," Les told the Argus.
Valerie, who was seven at the time, also loved horses and was happy to speak with Les while patting his horse.
"I used to pull up at her house and give my horse a rest. She would see me and come over," Les said.
The two quickly formed a friendship but by the age of nine, Valerie knew she had found the love of her life.
"I remember when I was nine, I went home after speaking with Les one day and I told my parents I was going to marry him," Valerie said.
The love for one another was strong, and despite Les spending more than two years positioned in Melbourne with the army, they remained in constant contact.
Les returned to Sydney in 1948 and wasted little time in dropping the knee to propose to Valerie.
The couple had a small wedding on May 7, 1949 at the Westleigh Chapel.
Les and Valerie had five children together and decided to resettle at Crescent Head in the early 1960s.
Les encountered a stroke of luck and managed to purchase a small dairy farm on Maria River Rd.
The devoted husband worked for more than 10 years before the family returned to Sydney in search of more work.
Les and Valerie worked numerous jobs until they reached retirement in 1985.
The loving couple, who had fond memories of the Macleay region, returned to live in Eungai Creek before they moved to the home they currently live in at Yarravell in 2007.
Les, 91, and Valerie, 88, have shared their lives and travelled the world together and the couple wouldn't have it any other way.
"I couldn't have married a more perfect person, she's been there for me through everything and you can't ask for anything more than that," Les said.
"I am so grateful for her."
Valerie, who can still see Les riding through the paddock on his horse all those years ago, believes the two share an unbreakable bond.
"We have been in each other's lives forever. We have never been apart," she said.
"I love him so much, no one could ever break our love, we are bonded together and we will be forever."
At last count, Les and Valerie had five children, 16 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
The majority will meet at the Riverside Park this Saturday May 4 to celebrate Les and Valerie's eternal love.
