Nambucca Shire Council is nearing the completion of constructing the new $2.7 million Lanes Bridge at Bowraville with a significant upgrade of the intersection of Cook and High Streets taking place this week to improve the approach to the bridge.
As a result, Cook St will be closed from today until 1.30pm on Friday.
"Traffic accessing Lanes Bridge on Rodeo Drive at Bowraville will need to comply with a traffic detour Council will have in place from today (Monday) until Friday in order for the intersection of High and Cook streets to be upgraded," Nambucca Shire Assistant General Manager Engineering Services Paul Gallagher said.
"The detour forces vehicles using Cook Street to turn left onto Young Street, then Right onto High Street, before going to Lanes Bridge and crossing the Nambucca River.
"Residents living on the northern end of Cook Street will need to travel via Young Street to access the town centre and its surrounds.
"The intersection upgrade is one of the final few engineering tasks we have left before officially opening the new $2.7 million Lanes Bridge.
"I would like to thank Bowraville residents for their patience during the past nine months of construction.
"The new bridge allows larger vehicles to cross the river and it will better withstand flooding due to being 1.75 metres higher."
Road closure information is up-to-date on the MyRoadInfo and Lanes Bridge portal on Council's website and an email alert has been sent to residents who have registered for updates.
