A tidal pool in Port Macquarie and funding for the Coffs Harbour bypass are two of the major funding promises from the Coalition Government for the electorate of Cowper. But Mr Conaghan assures Kempsey residents they haven't been forgotten.
Three of the main issues Mr Conaghan wants to tackle in Kempsey are the need for social housing, youth unemployment and drug problems in regional areas.
"Being a boy from Kempsey, I know the advantages and disadvantages that the Macleay Valley has," he said.
"I want to be remembered in Kempsey as the one who went in to bat for them.
"Youth unemployment, the need for social housing and the issue of drugs are three main areas I want to tackle in the Macleay."
Mr Conaghan also wants to focus on bringing industry and additional jobs to the Kempsey area.
"There is a need for growth in Kempsey and adding to the industrial park will create more jobs and opportunities for locals."
In regards to the social housing issue, Mr Conagahan said he will be working closely with Member for Oxley Melinda Pavey to provide more social housing.
"A long-term problem in Kempsey is social housing availability. This will be one of the first things I will look at. It's unacceptable that in 2019 we still have people living on the streets or in a car," he said.
In his victory speech he also said he would continue to dedicate himself to the electorate which spans from Port Macquarie to Coffs Harbour - the biggest electorate in the nation.
Mr Conaghan is the first Member for Cowper who was born in Kempsey.
"I'm very proud to be the first Kempsey born member in Federal Parliament."
