Nearly 4000 hectares of hazard reduction has been achieved in Tamban, Bulls Ground, Middle Brother and Lansdowne State Forest during April and May. Showery weather put a hold on operations over the last two weeks but the return to cool, dry conditions has made it possible to continue burning tomorrow in Middle Brother State Forest. This planned burning is aimed at protecting the village of Rossglen from wildfires as well as flora and fauna.

Protection Forester for Mid North Coast Mick Wilson said the reduction burns will protect people from future bush fires.

"Middle Brother hasn't seen fire for 20 years. Country needs mild fire like this to refresh and regrow, as well as protecting people and property from wildfire," he said.

Hazard reduction burns will be carefully monitored to ensure they stay within cleared containment lines, and people should stay away from any burning or recently burnt areas for their own safety. Motorists should also take care when driving in smoky conditions.

The hazard reduction burns will all be visible on the Fires Near Me app as planned events.
