"We were on a camping trip to Blackbird Flat Reserve Campsite, and I noticed a dog in the distance, at first we thought it was wild as that area is infested with dingos, but when the dog kept roaming around the other end of the camping ground and not venturing off, I went for a look," he said.
"She had a collar and came right up to me when I called, the poor thing was scared half to death, her tail was between her legs, and she was shivering from the cold and wet.
"From that moment, I made it my mission to get her home."
What followed were a series of events that involved an outpouring of support and offers of help through social media.
"I put a photo up on social media, and sent out a call for help; the response was overwhelming. The amount of people who offered help, or expressed worry for the poor lost girl was heartwarming," Scott said.
"A local man by the name of Newman Hollis immediately responded and offered to look after her until the owner was found."
Through Scott's efforts, it wasn't long until the owner was found, and ultimately, his social media post proved instrumental.
"Not long after Newman Hollis collected the dog, the owner stopped by and asked after her; his son had seen the picture on Facebook, a short time later the lost dog was reunited with her family," he said.
"I've never dropped everything and put all my energy into helping an animal before, but I would do it all over again if I needed to.
"It gave me a sense of pride knowing the dog was back home safe, and I could get back to enjoying my holidays knowing all was good and well."
