Toni, from Melville Girls Academy on the Mid North Coast and Shamika, from Dubbo Girls Academy, joined more than 180 academy students from across Australia at the expo.

The Girls Academy is the leading provider of in-school education and mentoring programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls and currently has 43 academies supporting 2600 students around the country.

The Law Society of NSW has sponsored the two students from The Girls Academy program to attend the "Be the Change" Indigenous Careers Forum for HSC students at Sydney's Carriageworks this week.

Organised by The Girls Academy as part of the NAIDOC Week celebrations, the careers expo brings together Australia's top employers and tertiary education providers to promote a diverse range of career, employment and study pathways to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who are completing their HSC this year.

President of the Law Society of NSW, Elizabeth Espinosa, said providing support and a structured career path for Indigenous school students, especially girls, is vital to ensuring they complete their HSC and succeed in their chosen career.

"Thanks to the valuable work of programs such as The Girls Academy, we are seeing the largest number ever of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls undertaking their Higher School Education Certificate this year.

"We are pleased to play a small part in supporting better outcomes for Indigenous education and helping these young women to succeed and become role models and leaders in their communities.

"86% of the girls that have completed The Girls Academy program are either in gainful careers or completing tertiary education - what a wonderful outcome.

"It's so inspiring to see the impact that The Girls Academy program is making, not just in NSW but all over Australia."
