Saints are in a three-horse race for the last finals position and a loss at this stage of the season to Wauchope could prove dire.
In the corresponding fixture last year, the Saints were forced to settle for a nil-all draw and while it didn't cost them a place in the 2018 finals series, it's still proven to be a reality check ahead of this Saturday.
"We only have to look back to last year and remember we drew with them at home in a game we should have won," Saints coach Kevin Sinclair told the Argus.
"Every game from here on in is a must win for us but especially games we should be winning.
"We can't afford to take any team lightly and we need to make the most of this opportunity."
Wauchope have struggled this season and have failed to pick up a result in any of their contests, losing all 11 matches.
While Sinclair claims the team's focus is solely on executing the game plan and picking up the competition points, he admits it's a great chance to find momentum in front of goal.
"We will be working on the top third of the field at training and of course we would like to see a few players put their names on the scorers sheet and score a few goals," Sinclair said.
"But it will probably be just as hard for us to score as any other week."
The match kicks off at Eden St at 3pm with reserve grade taking to the field earlier at 1pm.
