This became so wildly popular that by the 1830s pubs were being demolished so they could be rebuilt as dedicated music halls, entertaining the masses while they ate, drank and were exceedingly merry.

This fine tradition spread across the globe and continued right up until the 1960s, before slowly fading into history. Nowadays, most people have only seen a music hall in old-time movies.

But once a year, the good folk of South West Rocks close down the Roxy cinema for two weeks and transform the School of Arts community hall into an old-fashioned music hall.

Funds raised are used to preserve this historic hall.
