Current Kempsey club president Fran Tarbox credits the longevity and success of VIEW to the tireless efforts of its members.
"Reaching 52 is a significant milestone for both the Kempsey VIEW Club and the overall organisation, it is a testament to the commitment of our members to breaking the cycle of disadvantage among Australian Children," she said.
"We still have two foundation members, Joan Steffensen and Peg Marriott; they've been here from the beginning. Our eldest member is 98 and still drives here from Crescent Head; they are a prime example of our clubs commitment to the cause."
VIEW is part of The Smith Family education charity, and its members help young Australians by volunteering, fundraising, and sponsoring disadvantaged students through the 'Learning For Life Program'. There are 300 clubs nationwide and combined they support nearly 1400 underprivileged students; the Kempsey group is responsible for two in particular.
"We support two disadvantaged students, we don't know them personally, just their names, but we write them and send gifts at Christmas and birthdays," Fran said.
"It's not just about financial support, having someone care, and show a genuine interest is incredibly beneficial.
"When we attend VIEW Club conventions, they will occasionally have a young adult who has formerly been supported by the organisation as a guest, and it is truly inspirational and gratifying to see the positive effect the group has had on their lives."
Most meetings have a guest speaker, and the most recent July meeting was no different. David and Carolyn Duff from Toorooka in the Upper Macleay came along for the occasion and gave the ladies an insight into their Dowlfalls Labrador breeding business. Joining them were a half dozen adorable puppies that stole the show almost immediately.
"The support system is significant in VIEW, we have a focus on friendship and socialising, but it's all for a great cause," Fran said.
Next year the VIEW Clubs of Australia celebrate 60 years, and president Fran Tarbox is looking forward to this milestone; however, she hopes to have more ladies along for the ride.
"All ladies are welcome to come and join us as visitors and guests; there is no age limit, we meet the 3rd Friday of every month at noon, at the All Saints Anglican Church in Kempsey," she said.
