The Mid North Coast Indian Association (MNCIA) will hold its first major public event for Mid North Coast locals next month, celebrating the spirit of Indian Independence.

The two-day event will feature a cultural night including traditional Indian food, music and dance, a flag hoisting ceremony and sports day.
Owner of Prakhya Dental, Phani Prakhya said the MNCIA has been wanting to hold an event like this for a while.
"The Indian community here on the Mid North Coast have been wanting to host an event like this for the whole community for a long time," he said.
"It's a really good event that everyone can get involved in and enjoy."
Phani competed in the first Stars of Macleay Valley earlier this year and held an Indian themed fundraiser to raise money for the Cancer Council.
"There was a lot of support from the community following the Indian Night Fundraiser and we thought it would be a great idea to make it bigger and invite people from across the Mid North Coast.
"We'll be holding it here in Kempsey for the first event but would like to move it around each year so other towns on the Mid North Coast can host it."
The event will be held on August 17 and 18 at Kempsey High School. Tickets are $20 per day for adults and kids are free. Tickets can be purchased by calling Phani on 0423-939-185 or 6563-1377.
