At about 3.15am this morning, August 9, Coffs Harbour Police attempted to stop a vehicle of interest for a mobile breath test on the Pacific Highway.

The vehicle continued without stopping and sped off.
At about 4.20am the vehicle was sighted by Kempsey Police driving along the Pacific Highway near Clybucca.
Police engaged in a pursuit which continued to Stanley St in East Kempsey.
The pursuit ended when the vehicle collided with an embankment and concrete drain.
The male driver and female passenger were removed from the vehicle by police with officers having to use pepper spray due to their resistance.
Both persons were taken to Kempsey Police Station.
The male driver is currently at Kempsey Hospital under police guard with non-life threatening injuries sustained in the car accident.
The female has been released pending further investigation in relation to the ownership of the vehicle.
