A bush fire near Crescent Head has been downgraded to a 'Watch and Act' level as Rural Fire Service (RFS) crews work to contain the blaze.

The fire was at an 'Emergency Level' but the threat to properties on Loftus Rd have now eased.
People in the area are still urged to have their bush fire survival plan ready and to monitor conditions.
The fire is burning in a south easterly direction under strong winds at Verges Creek. It has moved across Loftus Rd and continues to burn within Hat Head National Park.
Aircraft are assisting RFS and Fire and Rescue ground crews to bring the fire under control.
The blaze has burnt through 390 hectares of bush land.
Firefighters are in position to protect homes if required.
Crescent Head is currently experiencing wind gusts of up to 40kph.
