The South West Rocks resident is set for a big two months, which could result in him securing a position on the Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Ironman Series.
But first, the St Paul's College student will compete at the Nationals Cross Country carnival, which begins on August 23.
Finn claims cross country isn't his first choice competition, as he focuses on Surf Life Saving events, but he excels due to his rigorous training regime.
"I am training six days a week, in the gym, in the pool and running so that definitely helps," Finn said.
Finn's determination saw him qualify for the national stage, as he said it was involved in a one kilometre sprint to the finish line.
"It was basically a sprint with a kilometre to go. We finished that last kilometre in a split of three minutes, it was insane," Finn said.
"The body and legs were aching but I just kept pushing."
The Year 12 student, who is currently in the midst of HSC trials, finished in sixth position in NSW in the 18 and over age group.
Following the national carnival, Finn's attention will turn to the Kellogg's Nutri-Grain Ironman Series trials at Coolum on September 7 and 8.
The trial is open to anyone on the Saturday, but only the top 20 athletes will be invited to compete on the Sunday.
From there, six will be chosen to join the professional circuit.
Finn concedes he's a long shot to be in the top six, but he's looking forward to competing and gaining knowledge.
"I will be one of the younger ones and as much as I want to make it, I am attending for the experience," Finn said.
"I will be going up against people older and more experience than me so it will be really tough but I can't wait.
"I would be stoked to make it through to the top 20 and I think I am capable of that."
Finn has also begun his training for the Coolangatta Gold, which will be held on October 12 and 13.
