Kempsey's reigning showgirl Keely Lawrence and the Showgirl Ball committee have been busy organising the ball and charity auction for the night of Saturday October 26 at the Slim Dusty Centre.
Ms Lawrence, who is completing her final year of a Bachelor of Veterinary Technology at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga by distance, made a decision to donate the money raised from the event towards two worthy causes.
"Half the money raised will go towards the Dolly's Dream Foundation and the other half towards improving the seating at the Kempsey Showground," Ms Lawrence told the Argus.
"The Dolly's Dream Foundation is based around raising awareness on cyber bullying and bullying of youth in rural areas and the impacts it can have on young people.
"It's very important and something I am very passionate about.
"We aren't sure on the specifics for the seating upgrades but we are hoping to improve the access for the elderly and disabled."
Tickets for the night are $75 each and it includes entry, a three-course meal, live entertainment and an enjoyable social evening.
They can be purchased at the Smith St and Elbow St Coastline Credit Union locations. If members of the community are unable to get to Coastline to purchase their tickets, they are able to contact Ms Lawrence directly via email at kempseyshowgirl@gmail.com
Items have been donated by local businesses, including two sides of lamb donated by Millyhill and a picnic table donated by Macleay Options, which will be auctioned off. A balloon raffle will also be held.
All of the proceeds will go towards the Dolly's Dream Foundation and the seating upgrades at the Kempsey Showground.
The Showgirl Ball and Charity Auction raised more than $16,000 for the CWA drought relief project at last year's event.
Ms Lawrence is hopeful a similar number can be reached.
"Hopefully we can raise just as much, if not more this year," she said.
The Showgirl Ball starts at 6pm.
