The building boasts 512 square metres of ground-floor retail, thirty-two shop top apartments, and 94 internal parking spaces across the five storeys. The apartments are a mix of three one-bedroom, five two-bedroom, and 24 three-bedroom set around an inner courtyard with access to a rooftop terrace.
Architects Nicholas and Associates is in charge of the development, and company director Patrick Nicholas is confident the new building will be a boon to the seaside community.
"The DA consent is great news for South West Rocks as it will bring good amenity and more permanent residents to town, while also activating the community socially and economically," he said.
"Our client and development team are excited to work with the community to deliver the project we have designed.
"We are currently working toward the next phase of the project, moving toward construction."
Council's Manager of Development and Compliance, Graham Snow is also confident that the new construction will be appealing for South West Rocks.
"It will offer uninterrupted views from Back Creek to the Gaol; I imagine it will have a lot of appeal for current and future residents of South West Rocks," he said.
"Back in March we had a letter drop to over 500 residents, everyone within a 1km radius of the new development, and we received 11 submissions, it's a real indication of the community sentiment and desire for something like this in South West Rocks."
Most of the submissions were concerns with the overall height of the building, which is five storeys but has been designed for only four to be visible from the street, the increased traffic to the area, and parking.
