The temperature reached a record breaking 40.4 degrees at its peak, smashing the previous highest temperature recorded in October of 39.2 degrees back in 2012, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
The forecast, reported earlier today, predicted the temperature to peak at 36 degrees.
It's set to be another hot day tomorrow (Tuesday October 8), as the forecast suggests the temperature will reach 32 degrees.
We should receive some relief from the heat following tomorrow, as the temperature is predicted to fall to the early to mid-20s.
Rain is also expected to fall across Kempsey later in the week, with between 10-20mm predicted to fall on Friday.
Another 20-40mm of rain is predicted to fall on Saturday while between 5-10mm of rain is expected for Sunday.
