East Coast Cutting Horse Association president Deb McLaughlin said the event ran smooth and there's potential for growth.
"It was fantastic and we received great feedback from everyone which is amazing," McLaughlin told the Argus.
"A shout out must go to vice president Michelle Fuit and treasurer Julie Turnbull who helped immensely with the organising.
"There's nothing official or anything in place yet but I would like to try and run two events in Kempsey every year."
There were a number of locals who competed in the horse cutting events over the weekend; Deb McLaughlin, Lisa McLaughlin, Sal Stennant, Cary Lebrocq, Camilla Douglas, Renae Osborne, Jayne Rees, Julie Turnbull and Michelle Fuit.
Tommy Stanton, whose father John Stanton was the first president of the East Coast Cutting Horse Association, competed at the event.
Bruce Woods and Jim Page, who were members of the original committee, were also in attendance.
The East Coast Cutting Horse Association also celebrated their 50th anniversary on the weekend.
The group is the first and oldest horse cutting association in Australia.
