The annual carnival organised by Wauchope-Bonny Hills Surf Life Saving Club was originally destined for Sunday, November 3.
An email alert from the Local Emergency Management Committee said the event will now be held on Sunday, November 10 and systems will be reopened for clubs to adjust competitor entries.
"The Carnival Competition Committee has convened and concluded that any north facing beaches would be unsuitable due to the predicted wind direction and strength and therefore the carnival has been rescheduled."
"The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted that the winds are going to intensify to 30 to 45 km/h and will fan the fires which may jump containment lines and the influx of people in the area makes it harder to evacuate.
"Tacking Point SLSC has been designated as an evacuation centre by emergency services."
