Macleay locals and visitors at the Seabreeze Beach Hotel, The Heritage Hotel of Gladstone and Smithtown Riverview Hotel were dressed to impress for the race that stops the nation this afternoon.
It was a cold, cloudy day in Melbourne, but that didn't slow the jockeys enthusiasm. Finche was the favourite going into the big race at 3 pm, but it was ultimately 'Vow And Declare' who claimed the win for 2019. It's been ten years since an Australian-bred horse has won the Melbourne Cup, the last was 'Shocking' back in 2009.
