While it is a weekday, Kempsey Sub Branch secretary, Alan Goulder, hopes that people will still show up to pay their respects.

"It's a weekday, so a lot of people will probably be at work, I think we will still get at least a hundred people for the service though," he said.

"A few of the high schools are sending people along, and Mayor Liz Campbell has been invited to attend.

"It's only going to be a short service; we will start just before 11 am, and then have a minute silence, followed by prayers, hymns, and a wreath-laying ceremony.

"The public is welcome to attend and lay a wreath; there will be a light lunch in the Memorial hall afterwards."

Armistice Day 1918 was the end of the Great War, now known as World War I and this year marks 101 years since the guns fell silent on the battlefields.

All around Australia services will take place to mark the sombre occasion. The most significant ceremony is planned at the War Memorial in Canberra, where thousands show up every year to pay their respects.

The memorial was originally built to mark World War I but has since been expanded to include all wars in which Australians have served, including World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
