The goal of the unique event was to raise money and create food hampers for those affected by the fires.

"The response has been overwhelming, a tremendous amount has been donated, and offered," Aldavilla principal Kathryn McNee told the Argus.

"The idea came from our senior students, because one of our teachers is with the Rural Fire Service, and we have had one family lose their home, the school wanted to help in any way we could.

"The superhero theme was about advocating for all the super heroes out there who are fighting the fires, and helping the community."

Students chose to dress up as notable heroes such as Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman, Spiderman and Iron Man, Jake and Lucas however, decided to take the hero theme in another direction

"I chose to dress up as my teacher, Mr Carver; he is a member of the Rural Fire Service," Jake said.

"I admire him, for everything he does for us in teaching us, and also because he fights the fires and helps everyone."

Ben Carver is a member of the Telegraph Point RFS and has been juggling his duties as a teacher and a firefighter for the last few weeks.

"I'm overwhelmed that the boys thought of what the RFS do as heroic," Mr Carver said.

"Since the fires have started, we've been trying to focus on the positives, the community has been amazing, as have all the RFS crews, everyone has been looking out for each other.

"The kids are aware of what's going on, and many of them want to help, there are quite a few busting to sign up for the RFS as soon as they are old enough.

"It's the Aussie thing to do, help your friends and the community in times of disaster."

Willawarrin and Bellbrook primary school students and teachers have recently been forced out by the fires currently ravaging their communities. In a sign of solidarity, Aldavilla Primary School reached out and welcomed them through its doors.

"We are so grateful to Aldavilla Primary School and West Kempsey Public School, all the schools in the Macleay have really rallied together," Willawarrin school principal Mr DeRoos said.

"The response from the community and even those interstate has been amazing; we've been getting messages from places as far away as Sydney.

"Our heartfelt thanks go out to the community and the brave people in the RFS who have put their lives on the line for us."
