My fellow councillors and I enjoy the opportunity to see first-hand the amazing contributions made throughout the year by our residents, businesses, schools and community groups, and to recognise the hard work of people and organisations in our valley at the many end of year presentations held in the Macleay.

A group that I find particularly special is the school awards-giving presentations and graduation formals held this time of year.
To join with our young people and the education community in celebrating their achievements is a very important part of community life. Listening to all that the school and students have achieved throughout the year, and to see the students' pride in being acknowledged for their efforts and receiving awards is an important part of the end-of-year season.
I wish all our school leavers the very best in your future endeavours as you strive to be the best you can be.
2020 Australia Day Awards
The Australia Day Awards Committee has made the decision to extend the closing date for the Australia Day Awards nominations to Monday, January 6.
With the community busy coming together to support one another in recent weeks, the extension will allow everyone plenty of time to nominate the many worthy recipients within the Macleay Valley community. The online nomination form is available at http://www.kempsey.nsw.gov.au/ausday or you can visit the customer service centre in Tozer Street.
Big Day Out
It was fantastic to see the community celebrate the International Day of People with Disability last week.
A huge thank you to all of the organisers, volunteers and organisations who played a part in bringing the family fun day event to Kempsey, which was all about increasing public awareness around disability and celebrating the achievements and contributions of those with disability in our community.
The event was one of my highlights for 2019 and I am looking forward to next year's festival.
