"Fire behaviour has increased and crews are currently working on property protection in the Upper Taylors Arm, Hickeys Creek and Five Day Creek areas," RFS Deputy Incident Controller Janelle Brooks said.
"The fire has crossed a containment line and we didn't have enough time to establish new lines before the extreme fire danger today.
"The advice from RFS is to stay vigilant and monitor the situation and warnings for the fire."
Residents in the areas of Hickeys Creek, Thumb Creek, Burrapine, Upper Taylors Arm, Taylors Arm and Millbank, and are not prepared, leave now towards Macksville.
"We are urging residents to leave before conditions worsen."
If you are threatened by fire:
- Do not be in the path of the fire.
- Protect yourself from the heat of the fire. Wear protective clothing and footwear. Cover all exposed skin.
- If the fire impacts, seek shelter in a solid structure to protect yourself from the heat of the fire.
- If your life is at risk, call Triple Zero (000).
The Macleay has a total fire ban in place for today, along with a Severe bushfire danger rating.
