Hundreds - from locals and holidaymakers, and of ages young to wise - donned Santa fashion and floated down Killick Creek under heavy clouds which promised what everyone would like to see in the morning.
There was an even bigger crowd on the banks and beach - cheering and snapping the action on their phones as is the way these days.
The DJs had the place a-jumpin, and when they dropped the hit of 2019, Dance Monkey, many broke into dance.
No dreadful drought or beast of a bushfire called Carrai East could dim the spirit of celebration and community.
