President of the Macleay Valley Business Chamber, Scott Marsh, said although Sanity isn't a member of the Business Chamber, it's disappointing when any store decides not to renew a lease.
"It's a shame to see any retailer closing down in the town, especially with the new cinema opening in Kempsey Central and the traffic boost that it will create for the stores in the shopping centre," he said.
The Argus understands Sanity will not renew their lease which ends in a matter of weeks.
Sanity was approached for comment regarding the closure and they provided this statement: "We have a 'no media' policy, and in alignment with this policy, Sanity will not be providing comment at this time."
Kempsey Shire Council and Gowing Bros were also approached for comment.
