According to Weatherzone meteorologist Tom Hough, the records for the station at Kempsey airport go back to 2001.

The records since this time show the average total rainfall for the month of February is 164.7mm.

However this month for dates through to February 14, rainfall in Kempsey has already exceeded the average. A whopping 275mm has fallen since February 1.

Mr Hough said in 2019 just 18mm fell in February, while in 2018 31.2mm fell.

The last time the total rainfall for the month of February came close to the average total amount was February 2015, when 159.4mm fell.

Meanwhile the last time the total amount of rainfall exceeded the average amount was February 2013, where 371.6mm fell for the entire month.

This year, the heaviest amount of rainfall over a 24 hour period fell from 9am on Thursday, February 6 to 9am Friday, February 7, when 61.4mm was recorded.

Mr Hough predicted there will be further showers over the next four to five days, however he doesn't expect there to be a huge amount.

Less than 3mm is expected to fall on Friday, February 14.

Rainfall, Mr Hough said is less likely on Saturday, February 15, however the prediction of a storm might be accompanied by heavier rainfall.

From Sunday through to Tuesday, Mr Hough said residents can expect about 5mm to fall each day.

From 9am on Monday, February 10 to 8am on Friday, February 14 the Kempsey station recorded 92mm of rain.
