So much so that group organiser Maree Alipanahi, a local physiotherapist, is looking for more people of any fitness level to join in.
"Everyone walks at their own pace, and I supervise those who are less expert or need to walk slower," she said.
"We have a warm-up session before the walk and a cool down afterwards, plus I give a few exercise tips."
The walkers meet at Gladstone Park every Friday at 7 am and head towards Smithtown on the other side of the Macleay River.
Some make it over the Major Oakes Bridge, while others don't get quite that far. The walk of around 3.5km finishes back at Gladstone Park at 8 am.
Anyone who'd like to participate is welcome. Many of the group enjoy a coffee and chat at the end of the walk.
Walkers meet at Gladstone Park at 7 am on Fridays. For more information call Maree on 0497 185 012 or visit the group's Facebook page "Gladstone Walking Group".
