Graheme Martin more than proved his worth in last week's event, playing on a course that showed all the effects of the recent downpours, the former club champion produced a brilliant 1-over 57 round.
Truthfully, it would have been no surprise if the course had had that dreaded 'CLOSED' sign upon the notice board and thanks must go to our greenkeeper, Graham Croad, for his bold decision.
Prior to losing his coveted championship tag last year to newcomer Ian Rudd, Graheme was the title-holder, so he's no mug when it comes to our game.
If Graheme repeats his form from last week, Ian faces a tough challenge for back-to-back titles.
Graham Hall was another who seemingly enjoyed the boggy conditions that, naturally, offered no run at all and he amassed 32 points to lead the B-grade field, albeit by a sole point .
This Stuarts Point citizen with golfing at heart signed off for 32 points - best of the day - a score that relegated Dennis O'Brien to the runner-up position.
There's no doubt that Dennis did have a bad luck tale to tell and one supposes Graham did have a trump card up his sleeve (so to speak).
After gaining promotion into B-grade for just the sole week, Gladstone's Phil Pinney's victory in C- grade, when announced, drew plenty of jabbering.
Phil led the way with just 25 points, but the lowly total meant little and as the saying goes winners are grinners.

Monthly Medal successes were Kevin Hopping (A), Bob Garner (B) and Wayne Cooper (C).
Their respective nett scores were 51, 50 and 54, all good and worthy of automatic entry into the Gold Medal field come December.
Ball winners last week were O'Brien, David Griffin (30), Steve Trott and Chris Hudson (28) and Graham Schasser and Peter Hatton (27).
Nearest the pins at the third hole went to Hopping (A) and Max Gleeson (B).
Today's event is a 14-hole 2B Best Ball with the back nine dominating, all visitors are welcome to take part.
