With significant funding support made available from state and federal government to assist with disaster recovery, council wants community feedback on what recovery looks like to them.
Council's Recovery Coordinator, Jo McGoldrick, said the main focus of the meeting is for council to hear from residents about the action that is needed in the short and long term and gathering ideas to help inform future recovery initiatives.
"Our shire has recently received government funding to assist with recovery from both bushfire and drought, and we are aware of other grant funding becoming available," Mrs McGoldrick said.
"The purpose of the meeting is to find out how residents view recovery and what they believe are priorities for Kempsey's Recovery Action Plan."
The recovery initiatives will be broadly focused into four key categories - social, built, economic and natural, and will involve a combination of council delivered actions and community driven events and activities.
Council officers who have lived and worked within the affected communities since the fires in November, have not only seen first-hand the hurt and damage wrought by the fires, but also witnessed the incredible community strength and benefits of working to directly connect those in need with the multiple Government support agencies.
"Recovery from an event of this scale will take months if not years, but to do it right requires broad communication now, with council and the community working together," Mrs McGoldrick said.
The Recovery Planning Meeting will be held at the Willawarrin Hall from 5pm-6.30pm on February 27.
