The Community Drug Action Team was presented with the Alcohol-Related Project Award at the Alcohol and Drug Foundation's Community Drug Action Team Awards on Monday, February 24.

The award recognises the Community Drug Action Team's hard work in developing the Healthy Parents, Healthy Children and Healthy Communities Project, which has seen the roll-out of educational workshops and resources aimed at improving awareness of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder.

"Macleay Valley Community Drug Action Team is thrilled to win this award. Our work has really involved the whole of community. It's about trying to get education out there," Macleay Valley Community Drug Action Team Chair, Mavis Jean Symonds said.

"It's really important to acknowledge the community. If it wasn't for their input, we would never have had this project. I dedicate this award to them."

Alcohol and Drug Foundation NSW State Manager, Lorenzo Woodford commended Macleay Valley Community Drug Action Team on its commitment to reducing alcohol-related harms at a local level.

"A huge congratulations to Macleay Valley Community Drug Action Team. They should feel incredibly proud of their efforts in helping to build a healthy community," Mr Woodford said.

The award ceremony was held on the first evening of the 2020 Community Drug Action Team Conference at the University of Technology Sydney. The conference united Community Drug Action Teams from right across New South Wales to network and develop their alcohol and other drug prevention strategies.

New South Wales is home to 71 Community Drug Action Teams, which are groups of passionate volunteers leading alcohol and other drug harm prevention projects, aiming to build strong and connected communities.

"Community Drug Action Teams help their own communities make grassroots changes which promote healthy lifestyles and prevent the risk of harm from alcohol and other drugs," Mr Woodford said.
