Mid North Coast Local Health District is contacting close contacts of the new cases, who are asked to self-isolate for 14 days from last contact.
They will be contacted daily to check that they are well and anyone who develops COVID-19 symptoms will be tested for the virus.
Statistics on the NSW Health website as of 8pm on March 28 shows that:
- 21 of the 33 cases on the Mid North Coast are in the Port Macquarie-Hastings local government area.
- The 33 confirmed cases from 2035 tests conducted (up until 8pm, March 28) represents a 1.62 per cent positive test rate to date for the Mid Coast Health District.
- Most of these confirmed cases are people who have recently returned from overseas.
- To the south, there are 187 confirmed cases in the Hunter-New England Health District.
- Across NSW, 1791 people have contracted the virus (up until 8pm, March 28).
All arrivals from overseas will be quarantined in hotels to prevent people flouting the 14-day self-isolation rule.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the new rules would apply from midnight Saturday, March 28 with arrivals quarantined at their port of arrival, not based on their home state.
A public health alert may be issued if additional information needs to be shared in relation to specific gatherings, events or geographical locations.
On Sunday, March 29, the Prime Minister said there were early signs the curve was flattening.
A spokesperson from the Mid Coast Health District said staff understand there are concerns in the community about the location of people with COVID-19, as people are obviously keen to protect themselves against the virus.
"Please be assured that anyone diagnosed with COVID-19 and their close contacts are either being treated in hospital or are in self-isolation to ensure there is no ongoing risk of infection to others in the community," she said.
