A collaboration between local wildlife rescue organisation FAWNA and the Macleay Landcare Network will see the nest boxes installed and monitored on private properties over the next 12 months.
Landholders in the Kempsey Shire are encouraged to apply to host the nest boxes under the program.
The program has been funded by donations to FAWNA's Nest Box Appeal following the devastating bushfires during the 2019/2020 summer season.
"The high degree of support to our appeal has given us a great opportunity to address some of the impact from the fires," FAWNA spokesperson Louise Moore said.
The volunteer run organisation has been overwhelmed with the response to distressed wildlife since the fires.
The partnership with Landcare has increased the capacity for the group to roll-out the nest box program.
"One of the greatest impacts of the fires on wildlife has been the loss of nesting hollows that can only be provided by old-growth trees," Landcare Officer Andy Vinter said.
"The lack of hollows creates a housing shortage that will limit the recovery of many hollow-dependant animals. By installing additional nest boxes we aim to reduce this housing shortage."
The nest boxes to be used are specifically designed to provide homes for different species of birds and mammals found in the valley.
Landcare is seeking expressions of interest from landholders in the Kempsey Shire area who would like to host nest boxes under the program.
"Its a great way for local residents to help restore local wildlife populations on their properties," Andy said.
