"We're back"...a claim that the Kempsey Veterans Golf Club can certainly make following last Tuesday's successful return to the game after virtually three months of hibernation.

It was the first Tuesday of March when the last official competition, that just happened to be the first round of the 2020 Club Championships, was staged.
Several weeks of 18-hole stableford fun events were lead-ups to last week's serious 14-hole stroke event that just happened to be the June Monthly Medal, it was a plan well-hatched up by several committee members.
We won't name them, but those concerned would certainly know whom they are and are wholeheartedly appreciated.
Contact was attempted with all current financial members through email, texts and yes, even that grapevine with 34 teeing off for hopes of a path into the Gold Medal final come December.
Rules and regulations linked to COVID-19 were adhered to and it is pleasing, indeed, that everything went well, except for some who sort of seemed to lose the art of simply playing the game.
At home in Grassy Heads tending his custard apples and stone fruits plantation, it was obvious that Allan Heather did appreciate the long break.

For Allan produced a 4-over par 60 round for a 51 nett to take the A-grade medallion by three strokes from closest challenger Peter Hatton. Little wonder as to why Allan was so chirpy in the car park, eh!
C-grader Wayne Cooper was actually the best of the day with a 50 nett and being six-under par he is sure to feel the wrath of the handicapper.
Just a dozen putts for the first nine holes and a count of 21 overall featured in Mark Townsend's round of 70 for a 53 nett to be the B-grade medal winner.
Graham Schasser, too, did count 21 putts to win A-grade, whilst the Club's evergreen - Milton Riggs, who turns 94 next month - excelled on the day with 20 putts to his name.
"Watch your ball and not the hole," says Milton.
Ball competition winners: Hatton, Riggs, Terry Hyland, SteveTrott, Ron Ingall (54); Schasser, Robert Johnston, Leo Wright (55).
Tomorrow's event is a 14-hole stableford with the front nine holes dominating and any visitors to our Nature's Wonderland are invited to join in.
Tee-off is scheduled for 9.30am and a phone call to the club on 65626291 would be appreciated.
