Kempsey's own mining component supplier, DGI Trading Australia, has continued a successful business model throughout the coronavirus pandemic.
The company employs 25 locals who dismantle mining machines before selling the parts Australia-wide and internationally to 30 countries.
COVID-19 restrictions have seen DGI rapidly adapting their product supply and business development model to accommodate the international travel and import restrictions.
"The virus has impacted how many machines we have on site. Usually we would have 30 or 40 containers on their way here from other countries, but at the moment there's none on their way," DGI managing director David Griffin said.
"However, over the past few months we have been able to continue work on site. We have been quite busy and even hired two people during that time."
David said although DGI is a global company, they continue to support locally.
"We sell our machine parts overseas and here in Australia, but the local community might not know much about the work we do, but we continue to support the community by being a sponsor of local sporting clubs and promoting community projects."
The company is continuing to create a niche in the global market as an industry-leading supplier of 24 grader parts. 24 series motor graders are Caterpillar's largest motor graders in production.
"We buy all different types of mining machines and strip them down into parts or as entire machines and sell them back into the industry," David said.
Leveraging their unique global supply chain, DGI have recently taken carriage of multiple 24M and 24H units, both for parts dismantling and outright sale into the Australian market.
Usually, DGI's sales and procurement team travel to remote locations to inspect and purchase surplus mining and construction stock from a number of countries around the world.
"Our recent focus on the acquisition of new, dealer-rebuilt and good used late model grader components has positioned us well to meet market demands," David said.
"Observing a spike in demand for these products both within the Australian and international mining markets, we've strengthened our inventory to accommodate this demand.
"With our purpose-built facility positioned directly on the Pacific Highway mid-way between Brisbane and Sydney, we're able to leverage 24/7 road freight options with our range of logistics partners. From regular daily movements to express, on-demand courier services, we have partnered with a range of local and national logistics firms to alleviate costly downtime for decades."
