The rally will start 3:30pm at the Kempsey Riverside Park with a vigil to be held for George Floyd and David Dungay Jnr.

Dungay Jnr was a Dunghutti man who died at Sydney's Long Bay gaol on December 29, 2015 after he was forcibly removed from his cell.

The family also recently started a petition calling for charges to be laid in relation to his death with over 86,000 signatures reached.

The rally was originally scheduled for June 19 however, according to a statement on the Facebook event, had to be postponed due to contact made by police to organisers.

Kempsey Police is hoping those who attend the rally are abiding by social distancing laws and use the appropriate methods to stay COVID safe with the use of masks and hand sanitiser.

"As long as all participants are complying with all COVID-19 guidelines, we won't be placing any restrictions on the rally," Inspector Campbell of Kempsey Police Station stated.

Paul Silva, nephew of David Dungay Jnr, said the family of Tane Chatfield, who was found unresponsive in his cell at Tamworth Correctional Centre, will also be in attendance.

The June 3 rally will follow on from various rallies throughout Australia with over 20,000 people attending Sydney's Black and Indigenous Lives Matter rally on June 6.

The demonstrations have been organised to highlight the high rate of deaths of Indigenous Australians in custody.

"We're rallying against injustices, for the safety and security of our people, and to tear down racist institutions that think they can get away with deaths in custody like David Dungay Jr," Sydney Uni student and former Kempsey resident, Leroy Fernando, previously told the Argus.

"I'm an Aboriginal man myself and for me rallying isn't just to protest, it's me defending my existence as a person, my right to live, my right to freedom, my right to not be a statistic for police brutality and deaths in custody."

Two buses will be travelling from Sydney to Kempsey on Friday for the rally with one allocated for the Dungay family.

A bus will also be available for pick ups in the Kempsey area with water and a BBQ provided.
