Barring accident - so 'tis said - Hilary Dew, with a lead of six strokes going into Tuesday's third and final round, is set to become the Kempsey Veterans Golf Club 2020 champion.

Dew led by just two strokes after the first 14-hole round staged way back on March 3 when bad weather and the coronavirus came into being.
His closest challenger, Graeme Dyet, failed to match his opening 3-over 59 score and signed off for a 66 off-the-stick to virtually call it a day even when he tees off this morning.
With Peter Hatton only there with a further two strokes back and the slightest of chances for the major prize, like Dyet, could sneak into the limelight for the after-handicap nett reward.

But Hilary, a noted local and successful racehorse owner-trainer, is a fighter and one who simply won't give up by making it a clean sweep (so to speak).
In B-grade Ron Ingall has surged to the lead with another steady round of 74 to add to his opening 75 in the first round and is on top by just the one stroke from Brian Stringer making a belated challenge.
First round leader, Bruce Morris, followed on from the blistering 71 on March 3 with a nasty 80 and will need a strong recovery to be back in the running for a title. Terry Hyland is tied on 151.
What a dramatic change has occurred in C-grade, with overnight(s) leader, Graeme Irving suffering the blues (so to speak) with an embarrassing "worst ever" tagging. Gone from the contest has he!
Suddenly our veteran of veterans, namely Mr Riggs, has sprung into the action to hold a commanding 9-stroke over his closest rival, Ray O'Brien, with Peter Mercer next best.
An 83 round first up and then 10 strokes better four months later can be termed as greatly surprising, wonderful or just simply amazing. Milton is soon to be 94 you may not know!
Now, we cannot seem to get away from the championships as former title-holder Graheme Martin was back in the winner's circle last week with his 57 nett.
Not a contestant this year being away for the opening round, it was good to see our No. 1 chef getting some sort of recompense. Counted out Hilary he did.
A 3-under 53 by Stringer went unchallenged in B-grade and this veteran golfer, who calls Deep Creek west of town home, is definitely finding form.
C-grade honours on successive Tuesdays were claimed by Craig James and he did certainly make a name for himself with a 5-under 51 result.
But he did have to survive countback with Peter Mercer, who will get back with him in very quick time. Peter, of course, is our handicapper!
In the ball competition there were nine recipients of new Srixons: 51 Mercer; 52 Riggs; 56 Ingall; 57 Dew, Chris Hudson, Greg Mayhew; 58 Steve Bates, Kevin Hopping, Rod Maher.
Chip-ins were performed by Graham Schasser, Steve Cameron, Riggs and Mayhew.
Tuesday's final round of the Club Championships will be staged in conjunction with the July Monthly Medal & Stroke competition and any visitors to our Nature's Wonderland are welcome to take part.
Tee-off is near 9.30am.
