Developed with local user and sporting groups, the plans outline the current and future uses, the priorities, and aspirations for both sites. Key upgrades proposed under the plans include:
Kemp St:
- upgrading of lighting
- new amenities buildings
- inclusion of an athletics track
- increased cricket pitches
- inclusion of the Shire's first Dog Park
Service Clubs Park:
- formalising the use of the park for events, concerts and markets
- expanding capacity for senior cricket events
- installation of a walking/ running track
- upgraded amenities
- enclosing the existing storm water drain to increase usable space
Council's Manager Infrastructure Delivery, Dylan Reeves, said having the plans endorsed will better position council to attract state or federal grant funding to deliver on the proposed actions for each location.
"The masterplans will deliver on our shared vision for Kemp St and Service Clubs Park as inclusive, public spaces that support the well-being and connectedness of our community while offering quality sporting and recreational facilities," he said.
"While our sporting groups have been consulted on these plans, it's important that we hear from the rest of the community particularly those with an interest in these sites. I encourage you to go online, have your say and let us know what you think of the proposed changes."
Council are also seeking to confirm the name of Service Clubs Park, named to honour the various community organisations in Kempsey. The park is subject to inconsistent naming, sometimes being called Services Club Park.
Residents can provide feedback on the Kemp St Sports Complex Masterplan and the Service Clubs Park Masterplan up until 4.30pm on Friday July 24.
