Harry James scored the first goal for Saints with Nick Wright slotting the second.
Ellis Jeffery was the third Saints player to trouble the scorers giving his side a 3-2 lead with 9 minutes left in the match.
Sawtell then managed to score two goals after that Jeffery strike with the Saints side bitterly disappointed when the winner was scored against them with two minutes remaining.

"100% effort best describes the first grade performance", he said.
"We showed we have goals in us by scoring three but unfortunately we were brutally punished by our own mistakes with four goals to Sawtell all coming directly from our errors.
"A lack of game time cost us in the end and with a whole new back line from last year it's the little things that come from time together that made the difference."
Sinclair was also particularly proud of the club and how well their juniors are developing.
"It was great for the club to see Saints juniors back up from their Friday night games to Coastal Premier League with Nick Hughes, Angus Patterson, Tom Fletcher and Corey Crotty all playing big part in the days efforts," he told the Argus.
"Nick had a great weekend, he was outstanding in reserves which earned him a first grade bench spot before going on and making his debut."
Macleay Valley Rangers were successful in their Coastal Premier League first grade match with a 2-1 away win over Port Saints FC.
Meanwhile in reserves Kempsey Saints scored a 2-1 win over Sawtell whilst the Rangers and Port Saints held out for a 0-0 draw.
