Paired together - really by chance - just prior to tee-off, Trevor Bailey and Ray O'Brien virtually re-wrote the record for 2BBB Stableford events staged by the Kempsey Veterans Golf Club on Tuesday last.

The club's starter somehow managed to get them together and at first thoughts the A-grader and rather normal C-grade lesser-light would have appeared at lengthy odds.
Trevor has been sort of "knocking at the door" of late and maybe, just maybe, he did find the form that had been missing for some time now. Blown out to a handicap of 13 was demoralising and it must be pleasing to be back on track for him.
Rumours tell it that Trevor amassed 40 of the 44 points and the handicapper will have such fun when dealing with that scorecard. There will not be any deductions from 22 for O'Brien even though there was a 5-pointer along the way for a birdie.
With the club liking to share things around, the next best individually-wise ie, the extra $20 voucher went to Graeme Dyet, this ever-consistent veteran certainly deserved of victory.
Dyet's 32 points led the way - except for Bailey's solo effort of a rumoured 40-pointer for 14 holes.
In all there were 17 teams contesting the popular event on a somewhat favourable course with tee markers in favourable forward positions as per green-keeper Graham Croad's request.
"Give the grass a chance to grow instead of more divots," he claimed.
Terry Smith and Paul Dykes - another A-C combo - put together a round of 38 points, whilst Chris Gorman (A) and Bruce Morris (B), along with Ron Ingall (B) and Bob Garner (B), signed off for 37 points
Just the one point away were the B-grade duo of John Inder and Chris Hudson, along with Brian Stringer (B) and Phil Pinney (C).
Nearest the pin at the third hole were Bailey (A), Mark Townsend (B) and Dennis O'Brien (C), whilst Garner went solo at the eighth hole .
Chip-ins were performed by Graeme Irving, Terry Hyland, Peter Mercer, Stuart Aston and Paul Dykes.
Today's event is a 14-hole Single Stableford and visitors to our Nature's Wonderland are invited to take part. Phone 65626291 for all information.
