Kempsey Shire Council will install new picnic areas, amenities, and a children's playground as part of an upgrade of the Frederickton River Park area.

Works are scheduled to get underway this month and are fully funded by a NSW Government Stronger Country Communities Grant of $274,921.
Families can look forward to two new picnic tables with the existing table and shelter to remain, a new playground with swing set, spring combination unit, enclosed slide and a new amenities block with disabled access and pathways.
A historical photo of the area will also be included on the side of the new amenities building.
The photo is of the steamer Olga built by John Baldwin of South West Rocks which carried passengers daily up and down the Macleay River until about 1918.
Council's Manager Infrastructure Delivery, Dylan Reeves, said the upgrade will transform the area into a more attractive and functional community space.
"The park is set right on the Macleay River so will be a nice space for residents and visitors to sit and enjoy a picnic or take the kids to enjoy the new playground," he said.
"Council is committed to providing public spaces that encourage the community to be active and social with the project identified in council's 2020-21 operational plan."
The upgrade is expected to be completed by the end of August.
